Every week I take the time to sit down to write and I am always heavily influenced by what is going on in my life. This week is not much different other than my world being slowed down by bacteria and much-needed rest. Along with fluids and movies I had the chance to showcase my art for the first time in real life. Since then I have been feeling inspired to share a little of my art process with all you.
Every morning I get up pretty early, between 4:30-5:00 am, make a pot of coffee and briefly skim my social media as the happiness is brewing. I take my hot cup of awesome down to my little den of serenity, where I settle into the chaise and write my Morning Pages. For those of you familiar with Julia Cameron’s work you will recognize the term; for those new to the idea Morning Pages is a brilliant way to do a proverbial brain dump where you write everything and anything that comes to your mind for at least 6 pages. In that time I am able to release any and all latent negativity from the day(s) before. Begin to explore new ideas and interests that have been sprouting up and most importantly uncover insights into conflicts I have been having and begin to hash out potential solutions.
The most amazing thing I have realized is that I often don’t know what I know until I choose to either write it down or say it out loud.
At 5:00 am when everyone is asleep I prefer to write.
Early on I decided that my Morning Pages were non-negotiable and since that first day in August of last year, I have only missed 5 days. Writing in this way has been the most important element of my transformation from perfectionist to REAL, messy multipotentialite and I am so happy to have uncovered the power of journaling.
During the height of my perfectionist life I thought that journaling was an absolute waste of time and energy…oh I was so wrong!
My writing usually takes about 45 minutes and from there I move to either my current reading selection (right now Made to Stick by Chip and Dan Heath) or I sit down at my desk to explore my artistic side. I either start a sketch, play with my watercolours or handletter a thought or quote that resonates with me.
Many times I have found that the resolutions that arise from my Morning Pages significantly influence what I choose to create.
Everyday is a little different…and I am grateful for every moment.
These are the pieces that I am currently working on.
Being able to express myself in this way has added so much joy, peace and wholeness to my life I often find that by the end of the morning my desk is a mecca for growth and change. Here in the wee hours of the day I am free to experiment, explore and fail.
Each piece I create is a part of my fine-tuning. Each piece holds a bit of my persistence, a whack of my failures and all of my joy.
I lovingly create myself anew everyday through writing, reading and creating all before I even see the light of day.
I am so grateful for the chance to share with all of you all the things I do that make me feel like the REAL ME.
Speaking of sharing…next week I am lucky enough to be showcasing my work alongside some amazing crafters, creators and artisans at the Christmas Shopping Extravaganza.
If you are in the area and are looking to pick up some unique and lovingly created pieces for the lucky ones on your Christmas list please come and check out my booth.
If you can’t make it and are interested in purchasing a piece let me know HERE and I will do my best to get you what you are looking for.
Hope to see you soon 🙂
